Percentage to Letter Grade

Percentage scores are converted to letter grades by comparing them against a grading scale — a table of percentage ranges mapped to letters.

The standard U.S. scale

A common scale used across many U.S. schools runs: 93–100% = A, 90–92.99% = A-, 87–89.99% = B+, 83–86.99% = B, 80–82.99% = B-, and so on down through the C, D, and F ranges.

Each letter grade also typically has a corresponding GPA value on a 4.0 scale, used when calculating overall GPA across multiple courses.

Scales vary by institution

Not every school uses identical cutoffs — some use a 10-point scale where 90% and above is an A, others use different breakpoints for plus and minus grades. Always confirm the exact scale your instructor or institution uses.
